A Letter to My Cat

A Letter To My Cat celebrates one-of-a-kind cats and their dedicated owners.   The editors Melissa Vanderwyst and Lisa Erspamer Entertainment are looking for cat owners of all ages to submit a letter written to their cats in order to potentially be featured in the book.  This is a unique opportunity for cat owners to express what makes their relationship with their cat(s) so special and to explore the love, joy, laughter and selflessness (or maybe selfishness) our furry friends treat us to every day.  The book will include gorgeous photography and personal letters from cat owners written to their cats.  We are looking for letters from prominent individuals as well as everyday cat owners.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit Best Friends Animal Society.

The goal is to help bring an end to the euthanization of shelter cats. We want to show people how wonderful and cool cats really are! Our hope is that readers will see how much joy the cats featured in the book bring to their owners, and in turn, go out and adopt a cat.

A Letter To My Cat will follow the hugely successful book, A Letter To My Dog, which featured a compilation of stunning portraits, accompanied by personal letters to each dog from devoted owners including celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Tony Bennett, Tyler Perry, Chelsea Handler, Robin Roberts and Kristin Chenoweth among others.

“While it’s easy to say ‘I love you’ out loud to our children and loved ones every day, sometimes we take for granted the non-verbal exchange of emotion we share with our cats,” creator Lisa Erspamer (formerly of The Oprah Show/OWN) said. “Taking the time to sit down and put into words what it is we really feel for our felines – I think even the most devoted cat lover can be taken aback.

The book team requires the following for submission:

•    Your letter: Please start it “Dear XXX,” and remember to sign it (Love, Mom / Dad…etc.). The length should be under 500 words.

•    Photos: We need you to submit a few photos of your cat alone, no people. Ideally, these would be your own photos, but if they are professional, please include photographer information so we can contact them for the rights if necessary.

•    Contact Info: Please include your full name, mailing address, phone number, email address and any website/blog/social media info.

Remember to include any stories that highlight your cat’s unique personality and expresses how much he/she means to you!

Deadline for letter submissions is 9/1/2013.
