Japanese Artist, Shunichi Yamamoto’s Fine Feline Art exhibit, is showing in the Children’s Gallery in the basement of the Salt Lake City Main Library currently through April 5. If you live near the area, go and check it out!
Yamamoto’s paintings includes familiar images with cats—demure, mysterious, glamorous, heroic—in the main roles. Yamamoto describes himself as a “cat person” who thinks it is fun to portray the felines in a bit of a different light. While he is painting he also has to learn the history behind the original painting.

Yamamoto’s art is big in Japan, published there as books, puzzles, postcards and a calendar, with an exhibition of his canvas paintings set for later this year. The artist and freelance illustrator who immigrated from Canada and Japan is also selling his 2008 self-published cat art book in the Library Store.
