Finding the Perfect Cat Toy

Teaser toys, mice filled with catnip, bizzy balls (you know, those plastic balls with a jingle bell that your cat finds to play with at 4am), catnip logs, lasers, electronic toys and more! There are a variety of toys that you can choose for your cat:

1.  Interactive Toys-help to engage and mentally stimulate your cat’s “play instinct.”  Such toys include puzzle type of toys, lasers and even some “catch the mouse” or ” catch the string” type of toys.    Photo: Radio Systems Brilliant-Pet_Pounce_Hero

2.  Catnip is a member of the mint family and contains an oil called nepetalactone that can neurologically stimulate your cat and give him an emotional high, sudden burst of energy or make him feel relaxed.  Not every cat responds to catnip as 50 percent of all cats appear to be immune.

3. Cat Trees/Scratchers are excellent for keeping your cat in tip top shape and it feels good to the cats to sharpen their claws on the post.

4. Balls, Mice and Other Misc. Toys These toys resemble prey and stimulate your cat’s predatory instincts. After your cat has hunted for her toys, she may decide to bring you the prize.  Don’t forget to tell her she has done a great job!

The right cat toy not only fosters your cat’s hunting instincts, they help you and your cat bond for life!

Quest for Favorite Mouse Toy Ends on Favorable Note

Does your cat have a favorite cat toy? Well, imagine if your cat lost it?

Recently, we received an email with this request late on a Friday afternoon…

Lost: One especially loved brown mouse somewhere in the house located in Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. Distraught cat named Miss Sophie and equally distraught cat mom named Melanie.

Miss Sophie has “hidden” it and after several months of searching together this special mouse can’t be found. The two of us believe it had pink ears and feet, body was brown, long tail. Kinda furry, opening in the belly where a treat or catnip could be put. About three inches long for the body and another three inches for the tail. Melanie has been to every store in town as well as looked on line but the search ends up with empty hands.

Please let me know if you are able to help this kitty and Mom.

Signed,

Desperate at the Beach.

So, We went to work here to find Miss Sophie a mouse.  I seemed to remember this mouse-in-question and searched the toy box of my cats Berlioz, Stiller, Salem and Dusty.  I also asked a few people if they remembered a mouse of this nature? No success there.

Wait at the bottom of the toybox! Success! I think this is the mouse…and sent an email with a picture asking if this was it.

The reply: Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

I went and asked the leader of my cats, Berlioz.  My Himalayan.  He is the oldest.  If I could convince him, I figured the rest would go along with it.  So, I explained the situation.  His response.  I got one eye…which to me, was enough..I asked the rest and they too, were sound asleep…

So I figured they would not miss one little mouse.  After all, they never knew it was in their toy box…and wrote a note to Melanie and Miss Sophie

Well, I talked with Berlioz, Stiller, Salem and Dusty and they said that they would give a “paw” up to Miss Sophie and give her their mouse (they have NEVER played with it. So, if we cannot find a new one for her.  So worst case scenario is that we have a mouse!

The reply:

Awwww,

Team B,S,S & D Rock!

And…the mouse is on its way to a new home!
